Monmouth County is Planning to Adopt a Complete Streets Policy

Monmouth County is planning to become more pedestrian and bike friendly. The Freeholders are planning to adopt a Complete Streets Policy which calls for making streets, bridges and parks more accessible. Freeholder John D'mico, who sits on the North Jersey Planning Authority, says the Complete Streets Policy is part of State and Federal goals.

"There is a movement at both levels of government to encourage the accommodation of pedestrians and bicyclist as an option to the dependance on foreign oil that is involved in using automobiles."

D'mico says there are some municipalities that have already implemented Complete Streets plans such as Monmouth Street in Red Bank and there are some elements of it in downtown Freehold. He says in going forward you'll see more attention paid to the needs of bicyclist and pedestrians in future projects.
