Surf City Considers Smoking Ban On Beaches

A Long Beach Island resident is trying to convince Surf City officials to institute a smoking ban on the beach similar to the restrictions in place on several others around the state.

While the council is considering it, Mayor Len Connors isn't too thrilled with the idea. He says there's already more dont's than do's on the beach and he adds we really don't need another law.

Connors says "we already have enough laws and it really should be up to the people to decide. You already can't play ball, walk your dog, eat, run, dig a hole more than a foot deep - we are up to our neck in rules. Enough's enough."

Seaside Heights, Belmar and other shore points already have bans in place.
