Christie Keeps Pushing To Make Jersey More Business Friendly
They were seriously considering moving to another more business-friendly state, but Governor Christie convinced corporate leaders of Honeywell International to keep their headquarters in Morris Township - by offering a package of incentives and tax breaks, through the state's Business Retention and Relocation Assistance Grant program.
The Governor describes the deal as "a huge success story", and he says corporate leaders in Jersey, across the country and around the world are realizing "something different is happening in New Jersey now- you have an administration that understands that you need to be responsive to business, you have a administration that is reaching out affirmatively to businesses…the Lut. Governor and I make 3 or 4 calls to CEO's each and every week- both folks who are in New Jersey - in an attempt to continue to keep them here and keep them happy - and folks who are outside New Jersey."
He says business leaders are getting the message that "this administration listens, that it acts, and that it gets things done - and in the end, what business wants more than anything else is an environment and an atmosphere of certainty…and also an administration that does not dawdle."
Christie adds "New Jersey is a different place now than it was 6 months ago…the message being sent is - give us a look, give us a call- or we're going to be calling you…everything is not going to be fixed overnight, but the journey is to get New Jersey back into a place where we are seen around the United States and around the world again as a corporate business leader."
Honeywell currently employs about 18 hundred workers in the Garden state.
