JACKSON - Jackson Township officials are expected to adopt this year's municipal budget at tonight's Council meeting. The spending plan totals $39.9 million about $685,000 less than last year's. 200 township workers will be taking furlough days and about 13 percent will be laid off. The meeting starts at 7:30 at Town Hall.
LONG BEACH ISLAND - A Long Beach Island visitor gets stuck with an insulin needle in the foot while walking the sand. It happened sunday at the 25th Street Beach in the Spray Beach section of town. The LBI Health Department responded. The unidentified man was treated and released. Anyone who see's waste washing up on shore should call 1-877- WARN DEP
ASBURY PARK - The Monmouth County Prosecutors Office is running a firearms exchange program this weekend. Prosecutor Luis Valentine says the Guns For Cash" program will run from Friday July 30 through Sunday, August 1 from 8:30AM until 5PM at the Asbury Park Police headquarters. The program provides $25 dollars for shotguns or rifles, $50 dollars for handguns and $100 dollars for assault weapons. Ammunition, replicas, b-b and pellet guns can also be surrendered without compensation. For more information call Captain Brian Rubino at 732-751-2203.
JACKSON - Jackson Police arrest two people for allegedly passing counterfieit bills at Six Flags Great Adventure over the weekend. Police Captain David Newman says the theme park's security informed them that Hector Gonzalez of Pennsylvania and Jeremy Galloza of East Orange had both allegedly used counterfeit $100 dollar bills Saturday at two different concession stands. A vehicle search also yielded suspected marijuana. Gonzalez and Galloza are charged with forgery and marijuana possession. Both are in the Ocean County Jail in lieu of $100-thousand dollars bond.
EATONTOWN - Today in Eatontown, Monmouth business and political leaders take a hard look at the possbile economic repercussions for the region when Fort Monmouth closes next year. The New Jersey Technology Council event will be at York Telecom.
TOMS RIVER - Toms River police identify the driver who died in a weekend car crash as 44-year-old Robert Jancewicz of the township's Dover Pines section. Authorities say his pickup truck careened off Route 70 at Massachusetts Avenue just after midnight Sunday and slammed a traffic station. Jancewicz died at the scene.
POINT PLEASANT BEACH - Faith-based family values advocates at the shore add their voices to the chorus of opposition to MTV’s Jersey Shore and its depiction of raunchiness and fighting. This coming Monday in Point Pleasant Beach, it's Jesus Shore...a day of wholesome experiences for people of all ages organzied by Move-The-Earth and the Abundant Grace Church, both of Toms River. BRICK - Two female pedestrians are transported to the Jersey Shore Medical Center with multiple injuries after vehicle involved in an accident in Brick township careens into them. Police Captain John Rein says the collision occured just after 10 Monday morning at the intersection of Sally Ike and Herbertsville Roads. The force of the crash sent one of the vehicles into the curb, a traffic signal and into the pedestrians. A 23-year-old Brick woman is being treated for mulitiple leg fractures. A Lakewood woman suffered internal injuries. The accident is under investigation.
