State Police: Missing Swimmer's Body Recovered

The body of a northern New
Jersey man who apparently drowned while trying to rescue two
relatives last weekend has been found.

State police say a passing fishing vessel found 20-year-old
Akhenaton Dyer of Paterson around 1:45 p.m. Friday. The body was
recovered about a mile off the south side of the Manasquan Inlet,
not far from where he was last seen Sunday night.

An autopsy was to be performed, but further details were not
disclosed.

Witnesses said Dyer had just helped a family member toward shore
when he began flailing his arms and yelling for help. Someone in a
passing boat then tried to pull him to safety, but couldn't reach
him in time.

The two family members Dyer was trying to rescue made it safely
to shore.
